The Project
A serious incident in the Mediterranean in 2015 prompted the Protestant churches of central Catania to increase their assistance to young immigrants, who are particularly vulnerable. The lack of support after reaching the age of majority leaves them without the tools to face life on their own.
Purpose
Obiettivo
”Granello di Senape“ is therefore established as a third-stage reception for young adults with documents and residence permits but who are not yet self-sufficient in psychological, emotional, and educational terms (work or study). Its aim is to accompany them towards full and positive integration into the social fabric until they achieve self-sufficiency.
“Granello di Senape” is also a project that supports and assists a larger number of migrants and immigrants than just the residents, utilizing the services of voluntary professional figures and networking with existing services in the area and organizations already operating in the city.
The objectives we aim to achieve are:
1. Promote a welcoming environment based on relationships and mutual care.
2. Organize individual pathways for job training or education aimed at making young foreign adults self-sufficient and positively rooted in the community.
3. Provide accommodation in the Evangelical Shelter House for the necessary duration to complete the above.
4. Address the needs of immigrants with the collaboration of voluntary professional figures, acting as a sounding board and liaison between existing services, and providing support in accessing specialized services within institutions, organizations, and associations.
Perspective
Finalità
In general, “Granello di Senape”’s commitment is to promote models of mutual integration through the active involvement of churches and the community, value the presence of immigrants as an integral part of the social fabric, and build multicultural communities as a response to policies of closure and social segregation.
